Insider tip: Lichtenberg
Lichtenberg borders on the two trend districts Friedrichshain and Pankowa, and on Marzahn-Hellersdorf. The proximity to these localities, as well as good S and U-bahn connections to the city’s centre, have made Lichtenberg increasingly popular. This quarter has long been an insider tip for young people and students alike.
- Einwohner 41.079
- Fläche 7,22 km2
Lichtenberg lies in the east of Berlin to the east of Lichtenberg station. The station provides the district with its own main line station. It is also well-connected to the local public transport network with S and U-bahn trains, trams and buses. You often need to take a second, closer look at Lichtenberg to see the charm it has to offer: most of the time it’s hidden behind the socialistic architecture.
A bit wacky but warm – that’s Lichtenberg
Vanessa is a real Berliner. She was born in Lichtenberg and grew up in Mahlsdorf, in the eastern part of the city. She explains why Lichtenberg is so unique and quite simply the best place on Earth: for one it’s the different people, for another it’s the flair which makes Lichtenberg what it is – because Lichtenberg is like Berlin, only smaller. And not to forget, of course, the warmth and friendliness that the Lichtenbergers exhibit.
Vanessa loves the special moments that you can only find in Lichtenberg: a little dance, for example, with a complete stranger on her way home. Or a quick chat with someone she only just met in the morning before work, who then goes on to wish her a nice day at the office. For Venessa this is the Berlin which she calls home.
