Good Deeds Day

Corporate responsibility in society matters a great deal to us. Being close to people – our tenants – is our most important success factor. That is why, since 2011, we have been using Good Deeds Day to promote better, more responsible cooperation.

On the 12th of May 2018 our company supported the spring festival of the “Sunshine Inn” youth club at Sonnenallee in Berlin-Neukölln with a team of 30 volunteer helpers. The outdoor area located very close to the meeting place run by the youth work institution “Outreach - Mobile Jugendarbeit” offered a wide range of sports, games, fun and culinary treats.

A bouncy castle, slide, lucky dart game, table football, face painting, henna fun and jewelry crafts were amongst the delights as well as dance workshops, a climbing wall and football coach goal posts. The ADO and Outreach teams together ensured the children and youths had fun. Approximately 1,000 visitors enjoyed a diversified stage show with oriental dance, breakdancing and a DJ. A magician also astonished the big and small guests with his magic tricks and enthralled the children with his balloon skills. Refreshments such as Köfte, Sucuk and halloumi cheese sandwiches from the charcoal barbeque were served as well as sausages, popcorn, candy floss, waffles and hot and cold drinks.

At 2.30pm, the festival visitors were officially greeted by Martin Hikel, district mayor of Berlin-Neukölln, Jochen Biedermann, district councilor and head of town development, social and civic services (Stadtentwicklung, Soziales und Bürgerdienste), Bernd Szczepanski, former district councillor, Joschka Langenbrinck, member of parliament (MdA), as well as representatives from Outreach and ADO.

Yeliz Ilbegi, Ilyas Yorgun and Hamza El-Khalaf, who work for “Outreach - Mobile Jugendarbeit” as teachers and violence prevention coaches in the Neukölln team and who look after “Sunshine Inn”, thanked us for the far-reaching support given in aid of this year’s Spring festival and highlighted the positive collaboration. As a thank you, they presented our team with an award for excellent service, commitment and reliable cooperation in planning and carrying out the event.

In his speech to the festival guests, Eyal Horn, our Chief Operating Officer, said: “As a real estate company that has focused on Berlin from day one, we place great importance not only on keeping our apartments in good condition, but also on promoting and supporting neighborly relations and the atmosphere in the residential areas. In light of this, we again decided this year to use our annual “Good Deeds Day” to support the Spring festival of the “Sunshine Inn” youth club–not only with financial means but also, and predominantly, through active cooperation by members of our team.”

Julia Hasinski, our Head of PR & Marketing and organizer of the “Good Deeds Days” in Berlin, added: “We are pleased that the “Sunshine Inn” youth club is active here in this residential area with its wide range of activities for children and youths. We wish the whole team all the best and every success in its work, and hope that the number of thrilled children and youths in the Sonnensiedlung will continue to be as high as it is now”. She expressly thanked the “Outreach - Mobile Jugendarbeit” team for the good collaboration during the preparation of this festival as well as all colleagues at ADO Properties, ADO Immobilien Management and CFM Central Facility Management who came to Sonnenallee on Saturday and actively supported the project.

Our commitment at this event was very much in line with the “Good Deeds Day”, an initiative that was initiated in 2007 by Shari Arison, the owner of Arison Group, and our company has participated for the eighth time. The idea is for company employees to support a cultural, civic or social project not only financially, but also physically on one certain day a year. At this year’s “Good Deeds Day”, 3.5 million helpers from 100 countries took part in some 20,000 projects. The number of participants thus rose considerably vis-à-vis the previous year in which a new record had been set with some 2.5 million people involved in 93 countries. ADO has been participating in this day since 2011 with the objective of campaigning for a better and more responsible life together.
